The Elafiti (or Elaphiti) islands
are easily explored on a day cruise from Dubrovnik. There are 13 islands in the
archipelago, but only three islands are inhabited – Koločep (pronounced
Kolo-chep), Lopud and Šipan (pronounced Shee-pan).
A number of companies tout for
customers down by the old Dubrovnik harbour, offering cruises to these three
islands, with a fish picnic lunch aboard a larger boat and drinks usually included in the price.

Just a few words of warning…..
the Adriatic sea can be quite rough at times, so any boat cruise is best
undertaken if you have strong sea legs, or if you have taken precautionary anti-sickness
pills as we had! There were a number of rather green people on the boat…. and
they were feeling a whole lot worse when we hit rough seas on the way back to
Dubrovnik. The Captain decided we would dock in
an earlier port, and travel by bus back to the old town. As luck would have it, the
bus stopped right outside our hotel... so all in, an adventure that ended well!

Hello:
ReplyDeleteWe keep promising ourselves time on the Croatian coast which is, we believe, absolutely lovely and an island trip, as you made, sounds perfect apart from the rough seas which really does surprise us at this time of year.
Hello Jane and Lance
DeleteDubrovnik had been experiencing slightly unseasonable weather, and while it was warm and sunny to us, it was apparently cooler than normal for that time of the year. The wind picked up quite dramatically the day we took the cruise :-)
How blessed you are that you have such views on a day trip. Wow.
ReplyDeleteThe Croatian coast, I think, is particularly beautiful. The many islands dotted around being an added attraction, and wonderful to visit. The last photo of the sea is splendid.
ReplyDeleteWOW ... your photos are better than most travel guide
ReplyDeletephotos.... well, maybe all travel guides..
Lopud looks particularly lovely, I can definitely see me making a trip there in the future after such fabulous inspiration. x
ReplyDeleteThe town and the coastline looks stunning, but I'm not a big fan of rough seas so I would have to check out the weather in advance before going on such a cruise.
ReplyDeleteThis is absolute paradise! The water so clear even if it is cold. You go to places I only dream about! Beautiful pics!
